Candlelight Vigil for Shante Thompson and Willie Sims

THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE AT/NEAR THE PLAZA IN FRONT OF CITY HALL. PARKING IS DIFFICULT, SO PLAN TO ARRIVE BY 5:30PM (seriously it takes awhile to park). Plan to bring change or some cash if you have to use paid parking. You are encouraged to carpool.

In the late hours of Sunday, April 10th, Shante Thompson and Willie Sims were brutally attacked and murdered in Houston’s Midtown.

Shante’s death marks the 4th transgender Texan to die in 2016. (That we know of.) Her friend, Willie, died trying to defend her.

67% of victims of homicide hate crimes are transgender women of color – this must end.

Join us as we hold vigil for Shante, Willie and all victims of anti-transgender bias and violence.

This event will feature speakers and a moment of silence for those we have lost.
